Invitation to an East Texas Rally

Postby ET Manx » 27 Mon Aug, 2012 2:49 pm

As some of you know, I am also a big Moto Guzzi enthusiast and am the TX Rep for the Moto Guzzi National Owners' Club. Every year, we have a free one-day rally on the first Sunday in October and this year that will be on Sunday, Oct 7. Greg, David, & JD along with JD's family came last year. JD & I brought our buggies, David came on his Harley, & Greg came in his car.

This year, I have changed things up a bit. The rally will now be held at the American Legion just east of Lindale. Since I have the grounds reserved for the whole weekend & since most of the Moto Guzzi riders won't be coming til Sunday, I would love to have this buggy group come out for the weekend. Camping is FREE unless you need water & electric hookups & then it is $14/night. It's only a few miles east of town and just north of I-20, so there are plenty of motels close by for those of you who want to come but don't like camping. I can lead a lunch ride, leaving out about 10:00 Saturday morning and I can fix some kind of supper Saturday evening at the campground. Sunday morning breakfast will be homemade dessert breads baked by my friend Ken Hand. Lunch will be spaghetti.

You may have seen a Moto Guzzi, also called a "Goose", here and there, but come to Lindale, Friday Oct 5 - Sunday Oct 7 and you'll see a whole "Gaggle of Geese"!

Here's a map and pictures of the Lindale American Legion grounds.

David,
Are you going to ride the Talimena Pakway? Linda and I did that with the Buggy last October. It's a fantastic drive.

David,

I'm heading up to OK Oct 12, 13, &14 for a Moto Guzzi campout which is the weekend after my Rally. Why don't you come to mine & then ride up to camp at the Talimena State Park & ride the Talimena Parkway that weekend? Other non-Guzzi bikes will be there, kids are welcome & it's a very calm rally/campout, kinda like mine, but with no awards or door prizes or t-shirts for sale.

The rally was GREAT this year. Lots of folks came early for the pre-rally campout on Friday & Saturday and everyone loved the new venue!

Approximately 60 people attended. States represented: Kansas, North Dakota, Tennessee, Louisiana, New York, New Hampshire, & of course, Texas! The Dallas area & Austin & Arkansas folks that were supposed to come backed out because of the possibility of bad weather. We did get a little bit of mist & a few sprinkles Saturday morning, but that didn't last too long. Sunday we set a record for the lowest high ever for that date at 53 degrees, so it was a little bit chilly! That didn't stop the kids from kayaking & fishing!

The Moto Guzzi dealer from Houston brought a couple of bikes to show. I think I'm gonna have to buy one of them. It's called a V7-Stone.

I had my buggy out there to show & everyone examined it (in detail) and only had positive comments - Way to go David! A dad took his kids for a ride, but didn't stay out too long because it was cold riding.

I'll post pictures later when I get them sorted. Heading up to Talihina, OK in just a little bit for a fun campout!
