June Beach Run

Postby Ken » 07 Mon May, 2012 9:01 am

We are planning a few days in Port Aransas in June and I intend to drive the rail down and back. We did this last year and a couple people said I should have posted up the plans, as they may have been able to join up with us and get some beach time in too.

So my plan is to leave in the cool of the morning, from home on Wednesday, June 6.
Starting from Kyle Texas, last year we did 80 to 183 to FM2678... to the Aransas Pass ferry.
This was a real nice run. Good roads with nice wide shoulders.
But I'm not married to it.

How about you Victoria guys? Anyone up for a beach Run?

We will be staying in Port A, until the cool of the morning on Sunday, June 10.

We have spoiled a plot by the gecko lizard, who had attempted to sabotage my drive in the buggy to Port A this week.
He did not make it!

I can't recall ever leaving it off, except to put fuel in. I was expecting a soft mushy body, but he was hard as a rock.

Buggy's running great. I expect she'll see 600 miles between now and Sunday. Wish me luck!

What kind of clip did you use to remove the little critter?

Some 12 inch long forsnip (sp), but had to add a couple inches of rubber tube to reach him.

199 miles in 3hrs 40min.
Left a little late, so it was a warm cruise.

This evening its beer, bbq and the pool.
In the morning I'll go get a line in the water.

Lizards... egg rolls?!?!? Oh come on... that's chicken thighs...

Wow, what a great buggy week we had.
Clocked 459 miles on Crazy Alice from Wednesday to Sunday this week.
And she never ran better!

Wow, A 459 mile trip: That's something to be proud of.

Have you noticed how good and reliable our cars have become since 2008 when Bryan took the "Doom Buggy Award"? :D :D :D

Ang and I fished the jetty and we also took a 4 hour (near shore, ~3 miles out) off shore trip.
We hooked a couple small V-Liners on the off shore and we hooked nothing off the jetty.
I went on a 12 hour off shore on Saturday and we limited on Red Snapper. But not much else for the boat. Was far to crowded for quality fishing, but still had a good time just being out on a boat in the Gulf.

Yeah 3hours and 45minutes one way, to get there. Sounded like a long time to me, but the route was nice and friendly, with wide shoulder's and everyone was friendly and waving as they passed us. It was hot, because we drove in the middle of the day, although I had planned to drive more in the mornings. That just didn't work out.

I have a new respect for those of you that drive these distances and even far more now... Joe and Georganne to name a couple.
