Children's Medical Center Parade - Dallas Tx 12-03-11

During the Roundup we discussed the invitation only 24th annual Children's Medical Center Parade to be held December 3 in downtown Dallas. According to the parade website the parade draws crowds of more than 350,000 and more than 350 television stations in 159 markets have syndicated the parade. This is a great opportunity to get some exposure for our club.

We are happy to report that today we received an e-mail confirmation that our group has been accepted to participate. They told us a team will come look at our buggy and then decide if one or more of the Looney Tunes Six Flags characters will be riding in our club members cars. Let's keep our finger's crossed that they will want us to help provide rides for these characters.

They have asked that we also submit photos of each of the cars willing to participate in this event. Would you post up and let us know if you are planning on making this event? Also if you have a nice photo of your car you would like to submit please let me know or you can e-mail it to me.

I know it's early but we want to start working on a schedule and accomodations also.

Greg and Georganne, Glad to hear you both may make the parade. One of the organizers for the parade came by on Saturday to look at the buggy and talk about everyone's buggies. We will keep you posted as we get more info.

We received the following message from the CMC parade organizer today:

We are looking forward to your participation. You will be coordinating with Becky Milkie who handles our vehicles. We will be using one or two of the dunne buggies to carry costume characters in the back seat, one is Llama Llama, red pajama and one more tbd. I have attached the info we need and will be in touch with more details shortly.

We would like to start planning this event in detail. So how many folks are planning on coming? There is no limit on the number of buggies they are just going to use two of the buggies for the characters.

There are several hotel options along I-30 in Rockwall and a HI Express in Royse City near our town (Nevada). Rockwall also has a lot of restaurants, etc. near the hotels.

We would like to have a lunch for the group at our place after the parade and have everyone hang out and visit, etc. Downtown Dallas (where the parade will be held) is about 35 miles from our location.

Please let us know if you plan on attending and when you will be arriving so we can get an idea on the lunch, etc. We will post up more info on the exact time for parade line up once available. The Parade starts AT 10:00 am.

Much to our chagrin we are not going to be able to make this one. I thought a government project on which I am working had an August 2012 deadline. Well, I just found out the new dealine is January . So, I'm going to be "Pedal to the Metal" for a while, and hope to use the weekends for R&R at home.

I hope the weather is great, and everyone has a fantastic time.

Llama Llama Red Pajama is looking forward to a ride with you and Justin.

The parade will be televised on Channel 8 in the Dallas area beginning at 10:00 AM. It will also be shown in other areas such as Houston San Antonio, Austin, etc. thru the month of December. As soon as they announce the dates and times we will post them up.

There are still some spots available for buggies to participate in the Parade if anyone else is able to attend.

Had a great weekend parading around. Billy & Gloria are wonderful hosts. Thanks for the comfortable bed & the food. Thanks to Chris for trailering my buggy to & from the parade & thanks to Billy & Bryan for the buggy repairs! Made it all the way home with no rain, although it did look dark around me in some areas. Got home at 4:30, parked the buggy in the garage, jumped in the truck & drove the 15 miles to Winona to watch another parade. I got so much candy thrown at me that I couldn't even carry any more. I had on my Santa Claus hat still, so I just walked part of the parade route & tossed it to kids. The ants will have a feast tonight with all the rest that was left on the ground! I'll post pictures of each when I get them on my computer.

Susan and I had a great time as well. Weren't so lucky on the trip home though. About 3 miles from Billy & Gloria's it started raining. Not real hard but enough. Let up a little so I could unload...been raining ever since.

Justin and i also had a great time, i cant thank Billy and Gloria enough for all their time and hospitality. Justin was so exited to have the BIG llama in the car with us, i think this will be a memory that he will keep with him for a long time. Dont feel bad Greg,i ran into the rain before we hit the freeway and rained all the way through Dallas, so needless to say i had a true tub buggy..lol Thanks again for the great memories and we are looking forward to the next time.

Thanks to everyone that participated in the parade and came out for lunch afterward. A special thanks to Chris and Justin for carrying Llama Llama Red Pajama. All of the buggies looked great with the decorations. As soon as we get the CD copies of the parade telecast we will ge them in the mail. We checked the schedule and the parade will be televised in the Houston area on KHOU - CBS on December 18, 2011 at 12:00 pm. Everyone in the Houston area please be sure to tune in. Note that Chris and Justin are separate from our group so when you see them please keep watching and the rest of our group will be shown later in the parade. As we see more information on other listings around the state we will post them up.

Thanks to all of you that came and stayed the night on Friday, some folks also stayed on Saturday night. We are glad each of you were able to spend some time at our home and hope that it was a relaxing, fun time for everyone.
