Shine and Show

Postby Ken » Tue Feb 25, 2014 7:34 am

Saturday, May 24th from 9am - 2pm. Of course, we would never turn our back on any VeeDub enthusiast that wants to hang out, but this event is intended as a Dune Buggy, no awards, Shine and Show.

Marble Falls VFW Post 10376 1001 Veterans Dr, Marble Falls, TX 78654

We should feel honored that the good people of the Marble Falls VFW has accepted our request to be part of their Memorial weekend. The VFW has a great large yard with lots of nice large trees and plenty of visitor parking as well as room for anyone trailing to the show. We'll be working on a layout plan to share well in advance of show time.

Here are a couple pictures of the location.

We have finished unpacking from Fredericksburg and are looking forward to Marble Falls. I have a question...Will it be ok to bring our dogs to the VFW?

I assume, like always, it will be ok for the dogs at the park but the VFW is a different circumstance.

Also, at the VFW, will the gathering be inside and outside or just outside?

Hi Scott,

Just talked to the Marble Falls VFW folks. Dogs are fine as long as they are on a leash or tethered in the park area. They do have a fenced baseball field adjacent to the park, and we can use that for the dogs to run around as needed.

The event will be held outside - we only have rented the park area for the Shine and Show. The VFW club house will be open, and we can go inside to order beverages from the bar (including the adult kind!) and use the rest rooms. People can also sit in the bar area if they want to escape the heat.

We have also confirmed there is a power outlet in the park area for our use.

Let us know if you have any further questions. Really looking forward to a great weekend!

Ken, you and Dave have done an outstanding job of setting up a great time for us. We really appreciate all your work.

Oh, from the sound of things, I doubt I'll be asking for a refund of my registration fee.

Bring your chairs and enjoy the shade of the large oak trees. 8-)
The location has good visible, so we should expect good visitor turn out.

 VFW has a flag pole in the area of our show and they mentioned a flag ceremony they will have at some time during our show.
That's all we know right now, but we'll keep everyone posted during the show, so we can all pay respect and participate.

 To help defray the VFW yard rental, we will do a 50/50 raffle.
- tickets will be $1 each or .... 10 for ONLY $10... what a deal :!:
- winner will be selected at 1:30pm and must be present to win.

Thanks to Greg Rardin and Dave Wells, we will also have a good supply of some awesome hourly'ish door prizes.
So when you arrive find one of the beautiful ticket girls to claim your ticket. 1 ticket per buggy please.

Last but most certainly not least a HUGE thanks goes out to Scott Reuter for taking on the entertainment for the day.
This is not a simple task, even for our small show, with hauling equipment and organizing music, so please, please, please, everyone let Scott hear our appreciation during the weekend.

That's all I can think of right now. Except, "IS IT FRIDAY YET!"

The Show & Shine went off fantastic. Now and then there was a bit of light mist, but sure not enough to dampen spirits. We had several non-regulars come and that was great. By my count we had 18 Buggies and that's pretty impressive in my books.

Not only the Show and Shine, but every aspect of the Blast went smooth as silk thanks to the hard work and planning done by Ken & Dave.
