Spindle / Lower Ball Joint Removal

Postby Patrick » 11 Fri May, 2007 9:55 pm

This is not on our Dune Buggy, but since it's the same set up wondering if anyone knew how to get it off as we are stumped at the moment.

This is on our Ghia. Trying to replace the Tie Rods and Ball Joints. Got the Rods off, but now after 4 hours of trying to get the Spindle off it's frozen to the lower Ball Joint. We've tried everything we know to get it off.

Anyone ever have the same issue? If so, can you tell us how one would get this off so we can replace with the new ball joints we bought.

I'd cut it off, but Spindles aren't cheap..

Thanks,

Pat & Lori

How about cutting a small section of 1/2 or 3/4 pipe to fit between the holes that recieve the ball joints on the spindle, stick a good size bolt with a nut in one side of the pipe and crank down the nut holding the head of the bolt on the ball joint tip. Should......in theorey push the ball joint out.

Pickle fork and air gun does it.
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

David O has best option, but in a jam run over to Autozone and get a hammer style pickle fork and get after it. It will come off.
