Shorting brake lines

Postby Rick Leddon » 30 Mon Apr, 2007 2:13 pm

I am replacing the brake lines on my Manx buggy. The standard line running to the back, of course, will be 14" to long. I undersand the flare for a VW is not standard and I don't have the right flaring tool. Can a flaring tool be purchased at a reasonable price. What are my options for shorting or making the standard length work. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

the old school way to do it was to make a loop in the line after it comes out of the floor pan in the rear
I thought it was kinda cool so I did it to mine as well
no leaks no problems

Hi

Thanks for the advise. I went to AutoZone and they loaned me a double flaring tool. It looks like the flaring tool I remember as a kid, but it has four dies (look like little buttons). I'm guessing I need to use these dies to make the type of flare needed. Can you guys tell me how to use this thing. Also I am planning to reuse my fittings. Can I buy 3/16 brake line in bulk or should I should by the sticks at AutoZone and cut them up. Thanks Rick

Rick
It would be much easier to get the kit, bend the lines to fit and your done no cutting no flaring.
