front wheels hitting corner of chassis

Postby tjheller » 02 Fri Feb, 2007 11:02 am

I've ordered Tailgunner wheels for my ride, 15" with 205/60/15 for the front. The car currently has GM spare tires (donuts) on the front. I think the new wheels are gonna rub the corners when I turn sharp. Anyone run into this problem?

What kind of car, stock ride height or lowered, what year model, late or early beam?

Early chassis...59 60ish. Stock suspension as far as I know. Beetle chassis.

You need to see about putting "stops" on the beam, like the later models have, and then you can "set" the turning radius to where the wheels clear.

Got my wheels on tonight, (AR Tailgunners) and they look bitchin'. Fronts are 205/60-15 on 15x7's and there is no interference at all with the frame. I don't know what I was worried about. Rears are 255/60 on 15x8's and they look cool as hell too. My wife asked me why I'd spend $700 bucks on tires and wheels for a car that didn't run. I told her if she had to ask, she'd would never understand anyways. I'd take pictures, but I'm not savvy enough to actually post them anywhere on the internet so it's no use.

Blackthree, did you build that roll cage or buy it? I can't tell, but does it tie into the rear bumper?

no I built it
bught the plans from DB Dean off the net
bought the pipe
front and sides 1 3/4" .090 wall seamless
main 1 7/8" .125 DOM
had it bent at a local Dirt car shop
fishmouthd the joints and had a bud weld it up

the rear down bars are just setting on top of the rear deck
they are just for show I planed on tieing them into the rear glassed in wood supports but after some thought I decided against it

they are pushed way outside so some one or thing can be put in the back with out hampering the area
works for me

Nice. I like how your dash integrates the windshield with the rollbar, makes for a clean setup. I'll be to that point in about a month,...I plan on referencing your car. Hope you don't mind!??? Notice I said reference...
