Tachs

Just wondered how many of you guys have a Tachometer on your buggies? Do you use it much? What kind of driving do you do that you feel like you need a tach?

I have done both. With and without. My rail has a tach and my f/g buggy does not. Both are daily drivers. I like to know what my RPMs are running. I would have put one in the f/g buggy if I had room on the dash. But I thought Volts,Oil temp and Oil pressure were more important. David H.

Yeah, I got a tacho...a HUUUGE ONE. VDO Extreme, white face'd. I usually, in my VW history, use the tach more than the speedo. Also, the benefit of a huge 5-inch tach is you can see it (and the numbers too) on the dash when you're tuning the engine, all you have to do is look up at the dash! No more running back and forth... :D

(of course, the experts can tune by EAR! Groooovy!)

I feel that a Tach can be a useful tool when your runninng HI Performance Engines. A lot of Big Engines will blow by the red line and it would be good to set your red line and follow it. I have had both tach and no tach and it depended to e one the engine size

I've got one but seldome use it for any real purpose. That being said it does look nice in the instrument cluster both in daylight and at night and they are not that expensive.

yeah I have one VDO 4"
works good. my engine builder asked me the other day
HOW MANY RPMS!
I said about six he smiled as if he new he would be getting a rebuild soon. it runs out of top end guts before red line, so im not to concerned.
a good tach is esential if you are gonna push it to the redline.
I looked over thinking I was at 3K when I was realy at 6K.
its hard to tell by ear if you dont already know your engine.
just my preferance
if it aint broke, break it then fix it
