Super Beetle as a Donor?

Postby staggerwing » 03 Mon Jul, 2006 1:19 pm

This is my first shot at building a buggy. I have a 73 Super Beetle I can use as a donor. The question I have is "is the front bulkhead of the Super Beetle chassis made the same as a standard pan so that I can bolt up a king pin or ball joint front end?

No, they're very different. The Super Beetle uses McPherson struts that tie the front end to the body.
It is possible though to weld a Type 1 (beam) frame head in place of the Super's. Measure once or 2 or 3 times, cut, weld once :D
