throttle cable question

Postby bobaganoosh » 05 Fri May, 2006 8:43 pm

I bought a new throttle cable and when I ran it through the car it seems to be about 6 feet to long I expected it to be around 14 inches to long but 6 feet.

what do I need to do the shorten it and which end hooks to the pedal the hook or staggered piece. when I dismantled it I didn't bother paying attention when I cut it out

maybe you got a BUS cable the bettel should only be 14" too long
the stagared end goes to the pedal
the other end should be straight?
all you have to do is stick it thru the tunnel tube poke it out the back
run it thru the fan housing to the carb
if it were me I would make the cut between the fan shroud and tunnel tube
shorten it up to where you need it then put on a small cable clamp
or you can go the rout of the buggy shortining kit from any site sponcer LOL
they cut it at the end and put on an adapter on the end
all this for single carb but duels pretty close to the same

if it aint broke, break it then fix it

I used an empi cable shortening kit. I would run the cable througth the tunnel and fan shroud, make sure that the cable is attached at the pedal and pull it taught at the carb, make with it with a sharpie at the correct length. Now I would disconnect the cable at the pedal, this way it gives me a little more slack while trying to cut the cable and attach the shortenimg kit. Be sure not to cut it to short. you can always go back and shorten it later. Good Luck, David H

looked at the package again and it is a universal throttle cable with different ends for what ever set up you have. I just need to trim the cable to the length I need it and there is a part that I am missing from my carburetor that the cable connects to it's a bar with a screw in it to tighten the cable once it is at desired length.

and the cable came with the shortening rod (but I didn't know what it was for)

Any autoparts store should have those cable stop nuts in the "HELP" section.

A thought on the carpet from one who's done it. I have a pan chassis (you do too, rigth?) Anyway, WHEN it gets wet you'll want to be able to easily remove the carpet to drive the pans. Yes, boat carpet does letwater through....least it did on mine :D

probably should of thought about that huh. you know what they say "you live and learn" I do plan on redoing this car in a year or two anyway so by then I should know if my carpet decision is going to stick around.

thanks greg for bringing that prespective.
