Quieter Exhaust

Postby Bill K » 27 Sun Apr, 2014 8:59 am

I'm wanting to tone down my exhaust. One option I'm considering is the Empi dual chrome pipes with removable baffles. I've been told you can wrap the baffles with steel wool and that will mellow the exhaust sound.

Has anyone tried this and does it work?

Just a thought, Seems like "buggymanjohn" adapted some harley mufflers to his dual pipes. HAd a nice sound as Iremember.
Not sure about baffling down dual chrome pipes.

Hey Bill want to test drive this? I got one just sitting in the barn. Not show quality, but would give you an opportunity to test it out. I had this on the rail, but way to quite for me.

I agree with Ken, that exhaust is quiet. I used to have that but, it was too quiet for me as well so I went for a more throaty sound with the dual exhaust. It sounds good without being too loud, (heard but not an irritant).

I have an unfinished (no paint or ceramic) glasspack muffler that will fit on the Tri Mil header if you want to try it....

Ken, yes indeed. I would love to try out that exhaust. That's one I had in mind, but just wasn't sure. This will give me a great chance to test drive it.

If you don't mind, and it's not too much trouble. I'll get it from you at the Blast.

And Greg, if you don't mind bringing that glass pack I'll borrow that likewise.

You guys made my day. :D

My sister has one on her red buggy and really likes it. It's trying to quiet a 2276 motor! You can tell it's back there but it does a nice job of keeping the noise down! If I had that kind of horsepower, that's what I'd be running.

yoboy had a fun looking muffler exhaust on their buggy at the Classic. I didn't get a picture though.

Here's a picture of the exhaust Ken mentions in the post above.
