Tire Pressure

Postby boltman » 04 Sat Jan, 2014 10:06 pm

Evening All:

I finally have the front suspension and alignment the way I want it on my manx buggy. New king pins, link pins, bushings. Went full cirlce taking out the needle bearings in the beam and replacing them with urethane bushings (way too stiff ride for me) and back to new needle bearings. The car drives straight and handles well.

I have radial tires p215/70r14 on the front AND 225/70R14 on the rear.

My question is how much pressure do you guys think I should be running in them.

I have found threads saying some of you are running lower pressure than recommended for the tire. I just think as light as the buggy is mabye I could get an even better ride at less than 30 psi. Just not sure how much less.

Thanks for your thoughts and have a great new year!!

Hey Keith,

I am running BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires all around with P235/60 R14 on the front and P245/60 R14 on the rear. I run a wider tire on the front than is traditionally used for the classic Manx look but I like the wide track feeling on the road. The wider tires give me a bigger foot on the pavement. I am running the tires right at 20 lbs or a little under at about 18 lbs. They wear out faster but with the weight of the car likely under 1200 lbs, it keeps the ride softer. I have just recently replaced my front tires but that is after 4 years of service. The original back tires still look like new!

Hope that helps,

John

I like to run pressures like John does.

Thanks guys.

I will drop the pressure to 20 psi and go for a drive when it warms up enough my cold shouldered buggy will cooperate.

15lbs.... You can also remove one of the sets of springs from the front beam and replace with a thru rod. This also softens the front end ride.

I get a good ride out of my adjustable beam by not running any front shocks.

Hey Guys:

I dropped the tire pressure to 18 lbs. That helped some. Went down to Qualitat and picked Doug's brain. He recommended new shocks. The old ones were gas charged. I repalced with new conventional shocks. Ride fixed!! Guess the gas shocks were too much for the light front end. Thanks for everyones help!!!
