Rear tires for a rail buggy?

Postby Steve76063 » 02 Tue Jul, 2013 2:29 pm

I'm getting my old buggy up and running (I built it in '83 and parked it in about '85). I've got almost everything ready for inspection, except the rear tires (30+ years old) are cracked and weathered. They were re-capped L78-15s, and had a nice round profile which works out nicely with my swing-axles.

Anyone have any suggestions for an inexpensive (I'm planning on driving mostly around town, and probably less than 500 miles a year) set for the rear? I want to keep the rounded tread if I can as the swing axle is set up with 10-15 degrees positive camber.

You can buy new L-78-15 tires from Coker Tires for about $150 each. Check them out at Cokertire.com.
They have all the old style new tires.

Discount Tire has a scale they use to convert the old tire measurements to the new ones. I have had a lot of luck with BF Goodrich Radial T/A. The fit my 50 year old mags and look great. Fair price too!
