Engine stalls

Postby bumble bee » 24 Mon Sep, 2012 4:48 pm

Problem just started. When you step on the brake while in forward motion, the engine dies. First thought was low gas, not in this case. The Idle is set a little high. Air filter is clean. Fuel pump is about six months old. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I had this happen when I put a new stock pump on mine. I run dual kads and apparently the fuel pressure was a little too high.
Drive along really nice, come to a stop sign, hit the brakes and it'd die. Thank goodness it'd start right back up gain.

The fix suggested by Hawkeye...add another gasket under the pump. It raised it just enough to lower the pressure. No problems since.

What sounds strange to me about this is it has been running ok for six months.

You didn't say what your carb setup is, but if you have stock style carb, with a fuel shut off solenoid, I would check that booger out real close.
If you have a voltage meter, watch it while you apply your brakes, maybe your brake light system is causing your voltage to dropping and causing the FSV to engage.
Might not be obvious, but maybe it only happens when multiple electrical systems are ON... i.e. blinker, radio, headlights, etc... then you hit the brakes and that's the final straw...

Ever see the movie Apollo 13, with Tom Hanks?
Remember NASA had to find a procedure for restarting the command module systems without tripping the breaker.
This made me think of that, that's all. Good movie though.
