Motor Assembly ?'s

Postby BrianB » 13 Sun Sep, 2009 1:53 pm

Ok the parts are clean and organized. The assembly area is clean. Now what do I need in the way of supplies and tools?
Assembly lube(lubriplate)
Sealant of some sort. What kind goes where?
O'ring lube?
Ring Compressor?
Torque wrench?
Bearing heater?
Press?
???
Thanks for the input.
Of course you all could come over and help(or point as the case may be  )

Brian,

I have the book, "How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen air-Cooled Engine" as well as the Bug-me video on rebuilding. I could drop them in the mail if you'd like. I also have an engine stand but we'd have to meet-up for that!

I used Permatex 3H for sealant (got plenty left)
Coffee maker for gear heater (torch would have been better)
Didn't use a press
Borrowed a torque wrench
You'll need Plastigage (got plenty left)
A dial indicator or end play tool (you could borrow mine)
Clutch aligning tool and a flywheel lock of some sort (you could borrow mine)
$5 ring compressor (you could borrow mine)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some other stuff. Let me know if you are interested.

I have never built a VW engine yet, but have had my hands in a few air cooled Porsche engines.
VW cant be any more complicated
