pressure plate

Postby matter396 » 10 Sun May, 2009 6:43 pm

Hey guys thought I would install the clutch and pressure plate today. Got the clutch disc in and the p. plate on it and aligned everything with the tool. Got ready to tighten it down and noticed the little pads on the pressure plate where the bolts go through don't touch the flywheel. They look as though they should mount flush to the flywheel but there is about an 1/8th in between the pressure plate and the flywheel. Is this correct?

one thing i read in a forum said something about taking a piece off the pressure plate that they use on the fingers for storage and shipping? Any idea if this is true and if so what?

I just had an idea....i pulled out the spec sheet from the engine builder, it says it has a lightened flywheel could this be why?

not stamped but the "idiots guide" says nose on clutch disc should face transaxle. Thats the way I have it. I measured the depth of the flywheel center and the height from the pp pad to the top of the disc with the disc laying on top of pp and the flywheel is 3/16ths to shallow it appears.

is this standard thickness for a clutch disc it is just around 9mm, but are all clutch discs double layer like this?[img][/img]

Can you close the gap by tightening the bolts? The fingers will have a tendency to lift the plate off the disc.

Criss cross pattern of tightening.

cannot close the gap. Measured everything again and the flywheel is not deep enough. Is this a clutch problem or a flywheel issue?

Double layer is correct. Thats how they apply the friction to both the plate and the flywheel.

If the plate lays flush when you don't use the disc then something is hanging up.

Maybe a pic of the assembly installed?

Tried again today and tightened it to the recommended 25ft lbs, and it closed right up. I guess I just didn't realize there was that much load on the clutch.

Thanks for the ideas guys.
