Progresive carb

Postby KIM-P » 08 Fri Feb, 2008 8:00 pm

I just rebuilt my carb and it starts and idles fine, but bogs when I blip excelerator. It seems to have a sweet spot some where near half throtle, but falls on its nose as I excelerate past this point. There are no heat risers on the scat intake and the intake sweats just under the carb. This carb has the 5 bolt patern on the top cover where most other progresive carbs have the 6 bolt patern. Not sure what size engine other then dual port heads 1600 case and a nice lumpy cam (maybe a 110?). 009 distributor and dual exhaust. I'm thinking larger jets and maybe a larger squirter for the excelerator pump. Any of yall got any ideas or has any body came across anything like this before?

OK I'll answer my own question. With no heat risers for the intake it takes about 15 minutes to warm up making it run much better ( more responsive ) past part throtle. I'm have opened up the squirter to the next size, (using a drill bit type torch tip cleaner),bottom end response is much better.

009 may cause a little issue as well.

Is there a fix for the 009 or should replace it with a better distributor?

Make sure it is timed correctly. I don 't have the exact numbers but I am thinking 28-32 degrees of total timing at 3500 rpm. Let me double check those numbers in the morning.

Other than that a good SVDA distributor is your best bet.
