Fuel fill hose

Postby MURZ » 17 Thu Nov, 2005 12:39 am

Anybody ever use radiator hose as fuel fill hose? I rememebr seeing a build up on a car one time where a guy said it was OK. I remember the pic of a section of the hose soaking in a mason jar full of gas. Any personal experience? REAL world????

I wouldn't use anything unless it is rated to handle the corrosiveness of fuel..

Carlos is right....if you are going to use anything, it must be fuel rated. It won't take too long before there is black gue inside the gas tank if it isn't.

Besides, for the difference in cost, go with the fuel hose..you'll always be asking yourself 'what if' when you drive if you use the radiator type...

Also, with the fuel rated hose, when it comes time for trouble-shooting problems, you DON'T need to diagnose/check the hose, if it's fuel rated.. saves one 'step'.. :D

If I understand your situation right.....you might consider making the 90 degree section out of the right size pipe or tubing, and then use the straight hose to make the connection. I hope this helps.

Yeah, I agree with Dave! If there HAS to be a bend, 90-degrees or 45-degrees, that piece should be a gas-rated SOLID structure...don't use hose. There are fittings available, and if you decide to use PVC, there is one that can withstand fuel, I think it's green, and 'acid' rated... (not the white or grey one)

two places you might try are
a dirt track race car supplier
or a boat supplier
both have the fuel hose and many differant cast bolt on inletts and exits

if it aint broke, break it then fix it

I went to Oreiley's and got Fuel filler hose for a ford truck, it was the right size. I used a piece of PVC right angle pipe, it fit perfectly. I then atached the hose to the tank which had the right angle attached and then marking where to drill was a snap. Drew a circle around the pipe fitting and then devided to find the pilot hole. Fit like a dream and has never given me any trouble in the three years I have had it on.
