Closing the gap

Postby Jack Duncan » 31 Fri Oct, 2008 12:00 am

Has anyone ever plugged up the gap between the forward bulkhead and the hood on the underside? Mine has about a 4" gap and I'm worried about the blast of air coming through there, especially in the winter. I'm looking for tips. :?

Yes, here in England, draught and cold air are frequent............... :D

I have fixed my bug, by using Gaffer tape and a piece of ripstop nylon between the bonnet and tub, it works really well and seals the wind out.

In time i will close fit a sheet of aluminium and have rubber seals around the outside.

Meanwhile the ripstop nylons fine, and the Gaffa tape never gives way

Thanks Peter, I haven't gotten to that point yet but my intentions were to do what you said about the sheet of aluminum and rubber seal. Since my hood (bonnet) is off at the moment, I can make a template of the inside curvature very easily. This should make a big difference in cold weather. (It is snowing at the moment here in South Texas)
By the way, thanks for the link to the wiring diagrams. That should be a big help. :)

I haven't had a problem with the cold but in the summer time
in Texas the air under the hood may help cool you and we drive
more in the heat than cold. I would save the work.

Yes, i guess thats true, when its hot over here , i just rip whole roof off, and that usually does the trick :D :D

The ripstop nylon in winter though is a godsend and seals it completely, i leave it in place all year, as we dont have the heat so much, if at all, and when we do, we didnt expect it :D :D

Glad the wiring diagram is of use to you

Brian, I thought of the heat too. That's why I intend to make the sheet of aluminum removable. (Two or three bolts) :)

OK, I guess I can always add it later if I think it needs it. I'll take your word for it. :D

I agree with Bryan , driving home from the local Christmas parade last Saturday it was COLD but I never noticed cold air coming from under the dash.
