You can be proud to have that car. With Jimmy it had a proud Texas tradition.

Hope you keep the Texas tag.

Hi Villmei, first I gotta say thank you for sharing and all of these pictures are great. It looks like you are already enjoying the Toy Bug. I can't help but think you have an interest in aircooled cars. It's really great. I can't wait to see it on the road.

Are there dune buggy clubs like us in France or your region that you belong to?

Nice engine restoration. I find that when you can polish the heads and pistons, you get better results. Hope you still have some form of premium fuel available. I have learned that every little bit helps for engines designed for 60's and 70's fuel. Well done!

I don't recall hearing any other France member, so I think you're right. Congratulations, you are the Texas Manx Club - France chapter! PM me a mailing address and I'll send you a sticker and club cards...

Are you hand engraving a badge? That's freaking awesome!

Between Villemi's work on the ToyBug and jpbairds work on Rat Fink, if anyone needed motivation to get into the garage before the Classic, you guys are certainly providing it. Keep the reports coming guys.

Hey staggerwing... you sure have been quite, why don't you update us on your bug or van restoration project?

Thank you very much : Excuse if my english is not very good !!

Continuation of the works

Be thought of 2 sons of the engine towards the dashboard as the connection of the witness oil pressing of the meter and the spare thread for an account tours.
On a buggy you go to see it is simple much much more!!!

Passage in the sheath driving compartment

Image
Image

Then it is necessary to pass wiring underbody. With the tubular frame Berrien it is a game of child

It is necessary to remove all the same 57 live of the sheet steel of protection.

Image
Image

I am going to take advantage of it to put a small coat of paint on the frame

Passage of cables 5mn: it is better all the same that the beam of the karmann:lol!:
AND yes the floor is wooden!!

Image
Image
Image

It does not more remain than to stand out from the frame in the girdle to go back up towards the dashboard.

Image

A little works renovation of the sheet aluminium steel under frame.

Here the continuation about which I spoke to you yesterday.

The idea is to have a support of plate sufficiently rigid to maintain the plate and rather flexible so that in the event of small shock that does not cause a damage
A little the spirit the plates of motorcycle
There remained to me a piece of joint of bottom of door of garage

Image

Side view

Image

To bore it to fix the plate at it

Image

then to bore it to take again fixings of the scout of plate.

And here is the result

Wow! You sir, are doing a fine job on that buggy and Jimmy would be DANG PROUD of the TLC his car is getting!

Welcome to the club and thank you for letting us know about that buggy and what you are doing with it. Can't wait to see the finished product. Say, isn't that the engine that had the distributor wires running through the fan shroud. I marveled over that idea! Great job with all the photos!

Salute!

Thank yopur very much for your congretulations.

Yes it is he engine that had the distributor wires running through the fan shroud

When I saw the Buggy on Internet it interested me.
The look all I liked the color.

I thus learned that it came from Texas of the town of Grand Saline and that it belonged to Jimmy Clyde Davis carpenter with the retirement.

Jimmy and is his wife Donna had 2 Manx Buggies

here:

Image

Image

Their Buggies won prices at the time of gatherings in Texas
Unfortunately Jimmy fell seriously sick and he died on September 8th, 2015.

I thus decided to tribute Jimmy by creating goodies which would be installed on the hardtop.

I called on Rascalscats and after many exchanges by e-mails, of sketch, prototypes one arrived from there so that you will discover.

After a few months here the result.

What a great gesture.

The picture of Jimmy's car must have been taken at the VW Classic. I see my yellow car and Chris Wagner's green car in the background. I can also see Billy standing in the background.

The picture of Dona's car with Jimmy by it was at the first Buggy Roundup which would have been in '07.

Small evolution on the linkage of carburettors.

BEFORE: CSP linkage: voluminous and not very pretty

Image

AFTER: Vintage speed linkage for carburetors 34 ICT.
Exceptional quality with a little running clearance and more beautiful.
What do you think of it ?
