new to the group

Postby boltman » 20 Sat Jul, 2013 10:31 pm

Greetings everyone.

I am the boltman aka Keith and look forward to meeting you guys at a future upcoming event!!

I bought a buggy out of Rick Leddon's stable a year ago this month and drove it around the block for the first time today. I can't wait to get all the little bugs worked out and take it for a cruise around our neck of the woods.

I have never owned a beetle. My only experience has been years ago setting the valves on my older brothers super beetle. Most of the parts I have bought (and people I have met) were at Qualitat. Really friendly folks.

I am 61 years old, and live by Lake Lewisville, self employed, empty nester. My wife and I have 2 kids and 10 grandkids. One of the them had a heart transplant at Children's in Dallas, so the parade will be a big deal to us.

Enough rambling for now. It's good to be here and I am anxious to meet you guys.

Welcome Keith and don't let those little bugs consume you. I've had mine for several years now and still working them out.

Hey Keith, welcome to the buggy madness! Little things to work on are a whole lot better than big things that need work. Driving a buggy is just fun!

Welcome aboard: You are going to love it here.

Get busy on those little bugs and have your car at the Buggy Roundup. We'd all welcome the chance to meet you and your wife, and to have another Buggy in the group.

Hey All:

No, I think Rick is still fond of his collection. He had one on the Samba for sale. Karen and I drove out to his house and looked at it. He then took us to the "barn". If you have the fever for your first buggy and he takes you in that barn.....I was on sensory overload!!! He had another completed buggy in the barn, but I just kept looking at a Tangerine Red one in the middle of everything. It was not fixed up, but I really wanted it and I think Rick felt sorry for me!! Anyway we worked a deal and its been in my garage a year this month. I was thrilled to get it on the street last weekend. Lots of bugs, but hey it's fun and cheap to work on. Everyone I have come in contact with starting with Rick, the guys at Qualitat, and all you folks I have met here are the nicest folks around.

I will send some current pics as soon as I get the windshield back on. I have some old pics and construction pics I will send your way.

I am not sure about the roundup yet. I finally had success with my main seal leak and adjusted the end play. Got the engine back in the car today and it runs ok, but the front end is worn out and gets death wobble about 50? (no speedo yet). I plan to rebuild the front end soon and get the seats where they will slide and have a little upholstery work done and hopefully start getting farther from the house soon. Really good to hear from you guys!! Thanks for your encouragement too!!
