wheelchair accessible buggy

Postby redserenity » 06 Wed Feb, 2013 11:40 pm

New here, so I apologize if this isn't posted on the right spot....Would anyone be will/able to build an accessible street legal buggy?...I've got the ideas, just not the physical ability.

Thanks,
John

Hi John and welcome to the TMC site. I sure hope you can find someone to help you out. I suggest you contact a club sponsor Hawkeye Buggies. Neil Decker is a full time custom buggy builder and if anyone can help you I'm sure he can. Follow the link to his website or just give him a call at 903.857.2325. Keep us posted of any progress and good luck.

It appears that Neil builds a nice buggy but I have tried to contact him a few times using his mail/contact and tel# posted on his site with no reply from him. I decided to go elsewhere because good communications is just good business, especially when the customer is not local to the business and can not drop by for a face-to-face and check progress. I don't know if an automatic is necessary for your accommodation? One thing that Neil does offer is the use of auto trans. He has built a few of them with good success.

This is not a slam on Hawkeye Buggies or Neil. It is only reflective of my personal attempts at contacting him.

There are lots of buggy builders that have good reputations and good product reviews.
You might check on TheSamba.com to see if there is anyone in your local area that can work with your concepts.

Good luck and if you progress to a project keep us up to date on your build.

Should have also mentioned Bobby at Texasbuggys.
Haven't seen Bobby in while, but he's a great guy from down in Victoria Texas.

I had no trouble with neil at hawkeye buggies.
As a matter of fact. I went and talked to him one weekend, order my custom frame the next weekend and picked it up the third weekend.
It was total a one off frame. Same thing with the custom chassis for the Maroon Manx. One weekend was all it took. I stand by his work.
BTW.. I know he has made a couple of handicap buggies. With an automatic tranny and complete controls on the sterring wheel.
