Who are you guys using for insurance? I don't want to insure my buggy as just a vw beetle.

Does Geico or Progressive put any restrictions on insuring a buggy, such as max. miles per year?
Also, do they require you to have your other vehicles insured with them in order for them to insure a buggy?
Can you set the value of coverage for comp. and/or collision?
What do they charge for buggy coverage?
Sorry about so many questions. Just trying to do some homework.

Mine is insured as a VW Beetle on a stated value with State Farm. No limits on miles or anything. The family has been with this agent for a long time so I'm sure that helped.
ALSO. I took them a CD with pictures of what they were insuring. Their actuary set the rate from the pictures and my reciepts, they have the pictures on file and I have a copy. If I have a claim they shouldn't be able to deny it because it's a dune buggy.

So far:
Allstate--No way
progressive --no way

Will try Gieco and a company called AnPac.

I am not going to insure it as a VW.

Why not, what do you know that we doe not know? Well, I could see how if something happened a Insurance Company could wiggle its way out of paying. All because you didn't tell them all the facts! Now that I think about it!

WOW, I would of never thought it was going to be such a pain in the butt to get the car insured. Bummer! I will look into it with a few people that call on me here at the Dealership.

So who do you guys have the rest of your insurance with? maybe they'd like to use ALL oif your business. Keep trying, I thin kit all depends on the agent...and how much business you already do with them doesn't hurt.
Thanks,

In the eighties I had a dune buggy that was titled "Kit Car". I couldn't get an insurance company to touch it with a ten foot pole.

GROUP RATE?

Postby Faron » 22 Sun Jan, 2006 10:12 am

I wonder if a group of Buggy Owners could get a Group rate from an Insurance Company. We would all have different policies, but a "Club Rate" if you will. If I give them a call it will be for 10 to 15 Buggies. Do I have that many people that are willing to jump ship from the current policies they have? Mine is so far from being finished, it would be foolish for me to have Insurance on it!
I hate to admit it, but Insurance never entered my mind when I started this. I guess I figured it would be "NO PROBLEM".

In California, Farmer's insure's many of our buggies. Try calling Irma Huizing. (714) 449-1970. Not sure if she can cover out-of-state, but she may have some suggestions though.

David--- got a qoute from Progressive for 50/100/50 of $305 for six months with unisured motorist, medical payments, etc. Does this sound reasonable? I finally got through to someone who knew what they were talking about!!!

Maybe Greg can answer that. I think he has full coverage. I'm just carrying Liabilty. Liability runs me less than 100.00 a year. David
