Buggy Storage Space or Trunk Build

Postby RobertB » 03 Fri May, 2013 5:57 pm

My wife and I always felt that our buggy didn't have enough storage space. Did I say enough, I mean ANY. So since we don't have any kids to tote around in the back seats, I decided to turn it into a trunk.

We always wanted to do this, but after seeing Mary's and Danny's buggy at Fredericksburg, it confirmed what we always wanted to do. Of course I always go off the deep end, so, if I was going to build this I wanted a large trunk, with a padded and upholstered deck, with gas lift pistons, and an electric trunk latch. Did I mention LED lights in the trunk?

So, after some plywood and many trips to the auto junk yards, I started.
Here is a pic of a bunch of trunk latches. Let me tell you, it was a challenge to pick one that could be altered or modified to get it to fit and work. I broke two of them trying to bend them to the right shape.

I'll try and keep this updated.

Nice thread Bob. What yard are you visiting? Are they letting you just walk around and get you hands on the cars?

Ken,
I've been going to Arron's and /or LKQ ( or maybe LQK), they're both on So. Congress. They're both Pick & Pulls, meaning bring your own tools and walk around till you find what you're looking for, then yank it out. Be prepared to walk a lot.

Looking good. Can't wait to examine your handy work. Are you gonna bring samples of your apple pie stuff?
