Mike's Kellison Sp1

Just traded my 60 for this and another incomplete buggy a few weeks ago. 1963 Kellison SP1

The people/person (not the guy I got it from) who built it obviously had little to no knowledge of VW motors as a lot of silicone was used to seal the motor. After a week of driving it around while chasing some electrical gremlins, the motor seized due to oil starvation from a plugged with silicone oil passage. Not really a big deal as part of the trade was a garage full of parts, including a few cases, transmissions, and a bunch of engine parts. Goal right now is to have it back together in the next few weeks.

While the engine has been out, I have been working on cleaning up/repairing the wiring. The builder used the original wiring from the donor and instead of shortening it, just had it wrapped around the engine. Plus the interior has been sprayed with LINE-X, including the wiring under the dash, which has made it a chore. But everything works now except for the wipers which I'm not worried about. New wiring harness will be a future project for sure.

Nice car, Mike. I'm looking forward to your joining us for an event soon. Think you will be ready by April for the VW Classic in Fredericksburg?

BrianB: Looks like all is going right on track. Should have it at Niftee50's tomorrow night.

Bill K: I will be at the Classic for sure. I have missed out the last few years due to work and other commitments but planning on making a weekend of it next year.

Motor is going in tonight, put the finishing touches on it last nite.

It may sound a little funny (to some) but I really like the back of your buggy! That "K" looks cool, the little humps for the backup lights is VERY convenient, and the VW inserts hit a homerun! Way to go!!

Cable shortener deal came apart. Made a quick trip down to KAR, and back on the road. Will be at Niftee50's tonight.

Brian it was good to see ya again, and Chris K it was nice to meet ya.

Was an eventful day, first the clutch cable issue. Then on the way to dinner, coupler came apart. Leaving Niftee50's headlights quit working, but got those sorted. Then they went out again, and then to top it off, I ran outta gas :) Back into the shop in the AM to work the demons out!
