Thanks guys,

Yes Im certainly off to a good start. Looks like my next objective is to put pan halves in this pan. This is my 3rd manx style buggy and I am planning on making this one the nicest one yet., so dont exspect it to be done anytime real soon... Im guessing a minimum of a year since I am having to do this one on a budget ( darn bills keep getting in the way of my play money! ).
Thanks Joe

I love seeing the youngsters getting involved. You don't see much of this anymore, they are too busy texting or playing with their electronics. I'm really jealous, as I didn't have any sons & the grandsons live too far away to be much help. Keep the photos coming on this build. Some of us VW beginners may learn a thing or two.

When we drug home the buggy I got for my wife, upon closer inspection, there was an Ahhhooga horn just like that nestled underneith. I pulled it out, put some power to it and it worked. Wife said that HAS to go back on it. So i took it apart and glass beaded everything, painted it and its ready to go back on. If you decide not to use yours, PM me.

Yes Fred, they went.... right into the dumpster. Along with the seats, the wiring, all the homemade crossbracing, the belly pan, the seat belts, the carpet, all the brake components and a host of other goodies. ;-)

Hey Danny... Post up a pic so I can see what it looks like. 8-)

Does anyone know where you can get a good-sounding ahooga horn that is pretty compact?

I got one from Northern Tool, and it was compact enough but sounded terrible so I returned it. I don't have a lot of room for one, thus the need for a smaller size.

The explaining everything reminded me of my first part time mechanic job (freshman in high school) at a Dodge dealer. I couldn't get an exhaust manifold bolt out of a 350 Chevy in a two ton truck. I guess I was whining a little about it & the shop foreman told me to get him a pencil & he would draw it out for me (smart a_ _) I ended up digging the gasket out & using a hacksaw blade with black tape handle to remove the bolt. I usually found a solution to problems after that, sure wasn't going to gripe to foreman.LOL These kids will learn a ton from this project, wish they were closer to me, I'm good at splaining stuff & could use some help.
Good luck on your build.

It's good to see th kids helping you. My dad always got involved with whatever I was doing. I bought a sandrail back in the early eighties and my dad went and bought one a few weeks later. Then we bought a frame and built one together. then he bought my mom a beautiful red fiberglass buggy ( wish I still had that one). My Dad passed away in 2003 but I will always have those good memories of the things we did together. Well getting back on track, the project looks like it's coming along nicely! keep up the good work!

The guages are back lit and that comes around the outer edges of the face plate and yes it is working. The turn signal and warning lights and high beam light are also still functional. However the turnsignal has been changed to blue. I will only use the turn signal indicator and the high beam indicator on the factory guage. The warning lights will be moved to a larger brighter lamp in the dash.

Very Cool. I like the surfboard idea someone has on the Samba. The needle is a mini Surfboard. Are you going to do the other gauges the same way?

The plan is for the other guages to be white faced as well... But will probably only be white and black markings. I am going to try to find them with a chrome trim ring on them as well.... Hopefully I can make em all look like they belong together instead of a bunch of misc guages taken from a few boxes. I always try to do a few things to my projects that not everyone will see unless they actually now what they are looking at. ;-)

Finished the springplates.... Although most of this wont be seen due to the massive rear wheels and tires, I think it will be cool peaking out from behind the 31's we are using on the rear...
