My new ride - Start another project

Postby rsw4723 » 02 Sun Aug, 2009 7:04 pm

Not a Manx, but it's a start. Old school ride from the 70's. 72 pan with a 60's motor. I think its a El Lobo. Runs and drives, but needs some TLC. Its been in storage for a long time and the trans cone is broken and motor could use a rebuild, but runs strong.

HELP. Anyone in the Houston area rebuild VW motors and trans?

First, welcome to the club! There are quite a few members in the Houston area.

For a trans rebuild, the usual route is just to exchange yours for a rebuilt one for about $500 (stock). Kermit at Kar Parts can fix you up:

Another option is to get a used one for $150 or so, but obviously there is some risk there.

The motor is a little more complicated because there are so many options. Rebuilding it yourself is the cheapest and isn't difficult at all. You can have someone rebuild it such as Henry at Bugoholics:

Or you can buy a build motor usually upsizing in the process.

Hope you can make it to the Buggy RoundUp Labor Day weekend - with or without your buggy.

If it is just the nose cone it's an easy fix just unbolt the old one and bolt on a new one
The motor you might want to up grade to a 1600 duel port it is hard to tell
what size engine you have from the picture give us the number from the
case below the gen. stand and we can help you find out the size

Nice! The body almost looks just like mine except mine has a pointed nose. Mine is a Lithia Springs buggy.
