Hi guys im new here,got referred by texasbuggys.This is my dads and mine sand rail project that we are doing.We bought it about a year ago from some guy in Port Lavaca and just now started working on it.It had a stock 1600 dual port on it,but me and my dad are making it into a 1776.This friday we are gonna put the motor back together with all the new stuff.Parts we have are

Mahle forged 90.5 pistons
Forged and counterweght crank
Forged 4030 rods
Engle 110 cam
High performance lifter
Chromoly pushrods
ceramic coated exhaust
Dual 40 hpmx carbs

Here are some pics of it when we first got it,we are gonna get the frame sandblasted and painted once the engine is done.

After we get the rail done and i drive it around for a little bit i am going to turbo it.I have a turboed car so i have a pretty good knowledge on turbos.

I was wondering whatever happened to that rail it had been sitting there on Main st. in P.L. for quit a while, glad to see it found a good home.

Yea im glad we got it when we did.Those guys really did mess up the front end.It looks like they jumped it or something and bent the front end.Then did a really crappy job on welding.The frame is completely straight though.

We are planning to make it street legal,and had a couple questions.Do i need all 4 brakes or just the back two?

A brake at each wheel and a mechanical parking brake to pass inspection in Tx.

Got the engine rebuilt with everything,i just need to adjust the endplay on it.Does anyone in the victoria area have any extra shims and the tool?I have pics but i need to get them off my camera

guys need some help.We are trying to jump start the engine and i was wondering if i have the wires right.I have the positive wire from the coil going to the positive battery end on the starter and im just using a jumper from the positive end to the prong on the starter.it turns over and everything and it started for like 2 seconds,but i could never get it to really start.I am thinking the timing it messed up.

finally got it running and broken in.It cant hold an idle i believe its the carb that needs adjusting.But can the valve clearances make it not idle?

Yes, If the valve adjutment is too loose the starter will drag, too tight and the engine will free spin when starting. But more than likely the timing and or the carb is out of adjustment. Points? Get a dwell meter and adjust per the repair manual specs.
To make sure your progresive carb is jetted right go to

Go to technical info and then carburator schematics, pick your card and the schematic will show you what size jet and if there in the right place. (Mine wasn't even close). Also your idle jets may be pluged.

Finally an update.Well everything on the motor is done,got the new super shifter in the a couple weeks ago.Just ordered new cnc hydraulic pedals,gas pedal,buggy wiring harness,center console,rear coilovers,and a couple more odds and ends.Once this shipment comes in and we install the pedals and shocks we can finally test drive it.Then its time to strip it down and take it to the sand blaster!
